Sub-clips explained

Overview

A sub-clip is a selected portion of a media asset containing a continuous range of frames taken from a parent media asset that can be treated as its own item.

Using sub-clips, you can separate and title a specific section of a larger (parent) asset, so it can be organised into a collection or used for editing in post-production.

A bookmark is a special type of sub-clip that uses a single frame.

For more information on creating sub-clips, see this article.

Searching for sub-clips

Sub-clips are their own independent asset type in Curator that can be searched and filtered separately (using the bookmark and/or sub-clip filters):

To remove sub-clips, please see Trash.

Viewing sub-clips

With a sub-clip selected from the search results, you can load it into the Asset Viewer just like a parent asset.

From here, the sub-clip timeline is shown above the playhead position:
ImageFrom the right-hand side of the screen, you can switch between panels.

When the sub-clip panel is selected, the currently loaded sub-clip will be highlighted (as shown above).

Each sub-clip also has its own metadata. Select the metadata panel to view or edit the sub-clip's metadata.

Depending on your permissions, you can also add detailed logging descriptions and notes to sub-clips just like their parent assets by using the Log asset button (see Logging explained for more details).

You can also adjust the in- and out-point or reposition of the sub-clip by dragging it directly on the timeline (for more information on this, see edit a sub-clip).
