It is for anyone who searches for assets in Clip Link or in the Curator for Adobe panel. ### Why a parent asset appears in your results From Curator 4.3, a search also looks at the sub-clips and bookmarks inside your media. If a sub-clip or bookmark matches your search term, Curator returns its parent asset (the video or audio asset the sub-clip or bookmark was made from) in the results. For example, a search for **strawberry** returns the video *Picnic2*, because one of its sub-clips is titled *Strawberry close-up*. The word *strawberry* doesn't appear anywhere in the video's own metadata. ![Clip Link search for strawberry returning the Strawberry close-up sub-clip and its parent video Picnic2](https://cdn.document360.io/c173e68f-0609-4297-9277-0fc5c6b45db7/Images/Setting/cliplink-search-parent-and-subclip-44.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-06T15%3A09%3A31Z&se=2026-11-06T16%3A09%3A31Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=sqwQbP0KVXfg2f7Aj4nYYNhEv6rSUtCdQeOMwx8FdBI%3D) This is useful when your system creates a large number of sub-clips or bookmarks, for example through AI logging integrations. You can hide sub-clips and bookmarks from your results to cut down the noise, and still find the parent assets that contain matching moments. ### How the asset type filters affect your results Parent assets are returned whether or not sub-clips and bookmarks are shown in your results: | Asset type filters selected | What a matching sub-clip or bookmark returns | | --- | --- | | Sub-clip and bookmark filters off | The parent asset only | | Sub-clip and bookmark filters on, along with the filter for the parent's asset type (for example, video or audio) | Both the parent asset and the matching sub-clips or bookmarks | With the sub-clip filter turned off, the same search returns only the parent video: ![The same search with the sub-clip filter turned off, returning only the parent video Picnic2](https://cdn.document360.io/c173e68f-0609-4297-9277-0fc5c6b45db7/Images/Setting/cliplink-search-parent-only-44.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-06T15%3A09%3A31Z&se=2026-11-06T16%3A09%3A31Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=sqwQbP0KVXfg2f7Aj4nYYNhEv6rSUtCdQeOMwx8FdBI%3D) The count shown next to each filter matches the number of results you get when you select that filter. To learn how to turn asset type filters on and off, see [Filters](/docs/filters). ### Find the sub-clip or bookmark that matched When you select a parent asset in your results, the sub-clips sidebar uses your main search term as its search filter. This means the sidebar shows the sub-clips and bookmarks that matched your search, so you can see straight away why the parent asset was returned. 1. Search for assets using the search bar. To learn more, see [Quick search](/docs/quick-search). 2. In the results, select the parent asset. 3. Open the sub-clips sidebar on the right-hand side. 4. Review the sub-clips and bookmarks listed. The sidebar is already filtered by your main search term. ![The Sub-Clips sidebar for Picnic2, already filtered by the search term strawberry and showing the matching sub-clip](https://cdn.document360.io/c173e68f-0609-4297-9277-0fc5c6b45db7/Images/Setting/cliplink-subclips-sidebar-filtered-44.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-06T15%3A09%3A31Z&se=2026-11-06T16%3A09%3A31Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=sqwQbP0KVXfg2f7Aj4nYYNhEv6rSUtCdQeOMwx8FdBI%3D) Each time you select a different asset, the sidebar applies your main search term again. To see all of the asset's sub-clips and bookmarks, clear the search term in the sub-clips sidebar with a single click. > **Note:** In Clip Link, the sidebar uses your search term only when it is shown next to the main search results. If you double-click an asset to open it in its own tab, the sub-clips sidebar in that tab is not filtered by your search term. ### Search highlighting has been removed In Clip Link 4.2 and earlier, you could hover over an asset's name in the results to see the metadata that matched your search. This search highlighting was removed in Clip Link 4.3 and Curator for Adobe 4.3, because it doesn't work with searches that return parent assets. Use the sub-clips sidebar, as described above, to see which sub-clips or bookmarks matched. ### Related articles - [Searching for assets](/docs/searching-for-assets) - [Quick search](/docs/quick-search) - [Filters](/docs/filters) - [Saving a search](/docs/saving-a-search) - [Sub-clips explained](/docs/sub-clips-explained) - [Searching for clipmark logs or notes](/docs/searching-for-clipmark-logs-or-notes) - [Adobe panel explained](/docs/adobe-panel-explained)
