# Viewing asset metadata

This article explains how to view asset metadata. To change metadata values, see [Edit asset metadata](/docs/edit-asset-metadata).

### Viewing asset metadata (single selection)

From here:

- White highlighted text indicates fields that are selectable and editable.
- Use the arrow at the top of the panel to select or filter a [metadata view](/docs/metadata-views-explained).
- Filter metadata names by typing into the search box at the bottom of the panel.
- Use the **View empty metadata** toggle to show fields that have no value, and the **View in categories** toggle to group fields by metadata category.

### Viewing asset metadata (multi-select)

**From the asset pane:**

1. Select one or more assets.
2. Click the arrow to the right of the **Metadata** button.
3. Select **Edit Selected** from the drop-down menu (or **Edit Search Results** to open every asset in the current search results).

This opens the asset metadata view.

The same filtering and metadata view options are available as in the single-asset view.

A list on the left shows which assets are currently selected for review.

**From the asset viewer:**

1.
