Using sub-clips, you can separate and title a specific section of a larger (parent) asset, so it can be organised into a [collection](/docs/collections-explained) or used for editing in [post-production](/docs/productions-explained). A [bookmark](/docs/bookmark-management-doc) is a special type of sub-clip that uses a **single frame**. For more information on creating sub-clips, see [Create a new sub-clip](/docs/create-a-new-sub-clip). --- #### Searching for sub-clips Sub-clips are their own independent asset type in Curator that can be **searched and filtered separately** (using the **bookmark** and/or **sub-clip** [filters](/docs/filters)): ![Search results filtered to show only sub-clips and bookmarks, with the selected sub-clip's metadata in the Metadata panel](https://cdn.document360.io/c173e68f-0609-4297-9277-0fc5c6b45db7/Images/Documentation/image-UCF03GTZ.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-06T15%3A51%3A53Z&se=2026-11-06T16%3A51%3A53Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=9r5mYvbSGwSnPf4pc7I1NSOm2lVZhPkoqd0uilL15Pk%3D) To remove sub-clips, please see [Trash](/docs/trash-doc). --- #### Viewing sub-clips With a sub-clip selected from the search results, you can load it into the [Asset Viewer](/docs/asset-viewer-1) just like a parent asset. From here, the sub-clip timeline is shown above the playhead position: ![A sub-clip loaded in the asset viewer, with its in and out range shown in green on the timeline above the playhead](https://cdn.document360.io/c173e68f-0609-4297-9277-0fc5c6b45db7/Images/Documentation/Screenshot%202026-02-13%20102106.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-06T15%3A51%3A53Z&se=2026-11-06T16%3A51%3A53Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=9r5mYvbSGwSnPf4pc7I1NSOm2lVZhPkoqd0uilL15Pk%3D) From the right-hand side of the screen, you can switch between panels. When the **sub-clip panel** is selected, the currently loaded sub-clip will be highlighted (as shown above). Each sub-clip also has its own [metadata](/docs/metadata-explained). Select the **metadata panel** to view or edit the sub-clip's metadata. Depending on your permissions, you can also add **detailed logging descriptions and notes** to sub-clips just like their parent assets by using the **Log asset** button (see [Logging explained](/docs/logging-explained) for more details). You can also adjust the sub-clip's in and out points, or move the whole sub-clip, by dragging it on the timeline (see [Edit a sub-clip](/docs/edit-a-sub-clip)). **Note:** Any changes made here must be confirmed using the **Save changes** button.
