# Create a collection

This page explains how to create a collection in Curator in preparation for [adding assets to it](/docs/add-assets-to-a-collection).

#### Create a blank collection

1. 2. In the **Create new** dialog, make sure **Collection** is selected, then complete the required fields. The information required is dependent on what has been configured by your lead or system administrator. 3. Select ‘Create’. Otherwise, ‘Cancel’.
4. Notifications will be displayed keeping you updated on when the Collection is being created and when it has been successfully created.

- Your collection is now ready to use and can be searched for as well. ([Searching and viewing assets](/docs/searching-for-assets))
- By default, the folder your collection is created in depends on the metadata you entered in the form. You can also choose a folder with **Add to a specified folder** > **Browse**.

#### Create a collection of pre-selected assets

1. Drag over or select one/many assets from the [Asset pane](/docs/asset-pane-thumbnail-views).
2. With your chosen assets selected, right click and select 'Create Collection or Production'.

1. Follow step 2 onward from the list of steps above. Note that the collection created will have your pre-selected assets added as per the alternative form advising the assets as well.
