When using hierarchical metadata, certain assets that cover the same topic (e.g., touring in Italy) may be pre-assigned with parent metadata (Such as a region of *Europe*) while other assets only have related child metadata. ![image 60.png](https://cdn.document360.io/c173e68f-0609-4297-9277-0fc5c6b45db7/Images/Documentation/image%20%2860%29.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-05T15%3A50%3A47Z&se=2026-11-05T16%3A50%3A47Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=Ys2T2ovlHJiKi9pNlqF8KCCyO%2B2xKUO4%2F7nBYXZk8FQ%3D) In cases such as these, you can apply consistent dependent metadata across multiple assets at once by designating the asset with the correct parent metadata as the **source** within the Metadata Editor (see the steps below). All loaded assets will then inherit the dependent values you set, ensuring the metadata set across these assets is uniform and organised. ### **Batch Editing Assets** **1. Select your assets** From **Clip Link**, locate the assets that require the dependent metadata to be set, as well as the one that has the correct parent metadata. With these assets selected, select **Edit metadata**. ![image 64.png](https://cdn.document360.io/c173e68f-0609-4297-9277-0fc5c6b45db7/Images/Documentation/image%20%2864%29%281%29.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-05T15%3A50%3A47Z&se=2026-11-05T16%3A50%3A47Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=Ys2T2ovlHJiKi9pNlqF8KCCyO%2B2xKUO4%2F7nBYXZk8FQ%3D) **2. Edit metadata** The editing metadata page will open, displaying your selected assets in the sidebar on the left and a list of metadata that can be edited on the right. ![image 61.png](https://cdn.document360.io/c173e68f-0609-4297-9277-0fc5c6b45db7/Images/Documentation/image%20%2861%29.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-05T15%3A50%3A47Z&se=2026-11-05T16%3A50%3A47Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=Ys2T2ovlHJiKi9pNlqF8KCCyO%2B2xKUO4%2F7nBYXZk8FQ%3D) As you can see from the above example, the **Region** on which the **Country** metadata depends has not been set here, resulting in a warning triangle and no options presented if you attempt to directly edit the **Country**. **3. Set a source** Right-click the parent asset and select **Set as the metadata source**. ![image 65.png](https://cdn.document360.io/c173e68f-0609-4297-9277-0fc5c6b45db7/Images/Documentation/image%20%2865%29%281%29.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-05T15%3A50%3A47Z&se=2026-11-05T16%3A50%3A47Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=Ys2T2ovlHJiKi9pNlqF8KCCyO%2B2xKUO4%2F7nBYXZk8FQ%3D) When the source is selected, this will be indicated by a pin icon displayed to the right of that asset. ![image 66.png](https://cdn.document360.io/c173e68f-0609-4297-9277-0fc5c6b45db7/Images/Documentation/image%20%2866%29.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-05T15%3A50%3A47Z&se=2026-11-05T16%3A50%3A47Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=Ys2T2ovlHJiKi9pNlqF8KCCyO%2B2xKUO4%2F7nBYXZk8FQ%3D) With a source selected, the options for the dependent metadata will now be populated with values corresponding to the parent value (in this example, **Region**: *Europe*) set on the marked asset. For example, Italy can now be selected from among other European countries. ![image 62.png](https://cdn.document360.io/c173e68f-0609-4297-9277-0fc5c6b45db7/Images/Documentation/image%20%2862%29.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-05T15%3A50%3A47Z&se=2026-11-05T16%3A50%3A47Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=Ys2T2ovlHJiKi9pNlqF8KCCyO%2B2xKUO4%2F7nBYXZk8FQ%3D) Edit the metadata as required and select **Save**. Changes will apply to all selected assets - both the parent (retaining its original metadata) and its dependents.
