Batch editing

Batch editing allows you to apply dependent metadata (within a hierarchical metadata context) to multiple assets with a single Save action when selected together with an asset that has parent metadata set.

When using hierarchical metadata, certain assets that cover the same topic (e.g., touring in Italy) may be pre-assigned with parent metadata (Such as a region of Europe) while other assets only have related child metadata.

In cases such as these, you can apply consistent dependent metadata across multiple assets at once by designating the asset with the correct parent metadata as the source within the Metadata Editor (see the steps below).

All loaded assets will then inherit the dependent values you set, ensuring the metadata set across these assets is uniform and organised.

Batch Editing Assets

1. Select your assets
From Clip Link, locate the assets that require the dependent metadata to be set, as well as the one that has the correct parent metadata.
With these assets selected, select Edit metadata.

2. Edit metadata
The editing metadata page will open, displaying your selected assets in the sidebar on the left and a list of metadata that can be edited on the right.

As you can see from the above example, the Region in which the Country metadata depends has not been set here, resulting in a warning triangle and no options presented if you attempt to directly edit the Country.

3. Set a source
Right-click the parent asset and select Set as the metadata source.

When the source is selected, this will be indicated by a pin icon displayed to the right of that asset.

With a source selected, the options for the dependent metadata will now be populated with values corresponding to the parent value (in this example, Region: Europe) set on the marked asset. For example, Italy can now be selected from among other European countries.

Edit the metadata as required and select Save. Changes will apply to all selected assets - both the parent (retaining its original metadata) and its dependents.
